BSSF is happy to announce that we will be offering a Bonsai Basics-I class this September. This class is designed for the beginning bonsai student. If you have an interest in bonsai but don’t know where to start, this is your answer.
The class will cover the following:
- A brief history of bonsai
- The basics of the different major style categories
- Basic styling techniques
- Basic care of bonsai
- Recommended tools and materials
Students will receive a plant at the start of the class. During the class we will perform basic styling work on the trees and discuss plans for the future. Because bonsai is an ongoing relationship between the plant and the grower this class will start with the initial shaping; we encourage you to return to additional club workshops (like the free 3rd Thursday classes) to continue working on the tree. The type of plant will be determined by the instructors and cannot be guaranteed, however they will be plants suitable to bonsai styling.
Students should bring a pair of gardening or bonsai scissors if they have one (the instructors will have some extras on hand if not.)
Cost – $75 (plus membership dues it you are not a member, your dues will be good through 2016)
You take home: 1 Styled Bonsai
