John Edwards will lead our March meeting about how to prepare and arrange a formal bonsai display. There are many points to consider when planning for a bonsai display. For each individual tree you must correctly match a display stand with the style of tree. For example, formal trees deserve very formal and polished stands while an old rustic tree grown on a rock may require only a simple unstained wooden slab. What accent will you choose for your tree? Small ferns and broad leaf plants are suited for deciduous trees and succulents are suited for trees that are from arid regions. As for the display as a whole, you must consider the heights of the trees in the display as well as the ratio of conifers verses deciduous trees. The arrangements must be organized so that the flow of the trees is inviting and welcoming. John will cover all of these topics as we prepare for our own formal display at the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show.
As a demonstration, members will be preparing formal displays at the meeting followed by a club critique of each display. The raffle table will be filled with items you will need for display such as accent pots and display stands.
