by Lawrence LeClaire | Dec 10th, 09December General Meeting - Holiday Party and Potluck!!!
Thanks to all our members who contributed to the Holiday Party. The December meeting is always a great event and has become a tradition for our club. It is always a pleasure to have all our members gather for a great meal and lots of fun.
Many thank you gifts were given out during our meeting by Tim Kong. BUT no gift is as valuable as Tim’s contribution, hard work, and dedication to our club. Thanks for everything you do Tim! We would also like to thanks those that brought fantastic raffle prizes for our curator’s raffle. Wow, you guys really helped out. John Edwards won the Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt docent raffle. John has contributed many hours to the Garden and also spear- headed our the BSSF-effort to recruit docents. If you haven’t volunteered to docent, prune, or weed at the Garden, you are missing a great chance to learn about bonsai culture and to contribute to a great project. Be sure to raise your hand and volunteer to docent in the coming months. It’s easy and fun.
At the meeting, we reviewed the many bonsai displays BSSF has planned for 2010. It is your duty as a BSSF member to volunteer to help with these displays.
Our 50th Anniversary Show will require the most work. When we display at the SF Flower & Garden Show, the tables, covers, backdrops, advertising and security is provided for us. We just supply the trees. At the Hall of Flowers, we will need to supply ALL the man(and woman) power to set up the show. Several committees will be formed in the coming months. Join one and help out.
The pinch pots we made at the August meeting were delivered and most found their owners at the party. Once again, thanks to Tim for finding a kiln and convincing the owner that a bunch of kindergartners didn’t make the pots. If you made pinch pots, please try to take them home at the next meeting.
Now we begin 2010. Probably one of the busiest years in BSSF history. Shows, displays, meetings, workshops, classes, the auction, and collecting are all on the schedule for this year. Lets get started!
