by Lawrence LeClaire | Dec 10th, 09December General Meeting - Holiday Party and Potluck!!!

Thanks to all our members who contributed to the Holiday Party. The December meeting is always a great event and has become a tradition for our club. It is always a pleasure to have all our members gather for a great meal and lots of fun.

Many thank you gifts were given out during our meeting by Tim Kong. BUT no gift is as valuable as Tim’s contribution, hard work, and dedication to our club. Thanks for everything you do Tim! We would also like to thanks those that brought fantastic raffle prizes for our curator’s raffle. Wow, you guys really helped out. John Edwards won the Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt docent raffle. John has contributed many hours to the Garden and also spear- headed our the BSSF-effort to recruit docents. If you haven’t volunteered to docent, prune, or weed at the Garden, you are missing a great chance to learn about bonsai culture and to contribute to a great project. Be sure to raise your hand and volunteer to docent in the coming months. It’s easy and fun.
At the meeting, we reviewed the many bonsai displays BSSF has planned for 2010. It is your duty as a BSSF member to volunteer to help with these displays.

Our 50th Anniversary Show will require the most work. When we display at the SF Flower & Garden Show, the tables, covers, backdrops, advertising and security is provided for us. We just supply the trees. At the Hall of Flowers, we will need to supply ALL the man(and woman) power to set up the show. Several committees will be formed in the coming months. Join one and help out.
The pinch pots we made at the August meeting were delivered and most found their owners at the party. Once again, thanks to Tim for finding a kiln and convincing the owner that a bunch of kindergartners didn’t make the pots. If you made pinch pots, please try to take them home at the next meeting.

Now we begin 2010. Probably one of the busiest years in BSSF history. Shows, displays, meetings, workshops, classes, the auction, and collecting are all on the schedule for this year. Lets get started!

by Lawrence LeClaire | Dec 11th, 08December General Meeting - Holiday Party and Potluck!!!

Our Holiday Party/Potluck will be held in Recreation room of the Hall of Flowers. Plan to bring a favorite holiday dish to share. Setup will start for the party at the Hall of Flowers on December 11 at 6:30 PM (note later time). Wine and one entree will be provided by the club. Club members are asked to bring one dish to share with everyone. There is a food heating facility, but you’ll need to bring heating dishes, a trivet and serving dishes. We have a few serving utensils, but bring your own if you can!
There will be door prizes and a special holiday raffle to benefit the curator fund at the GSBF Collection North. We are looking forward to another great holiday affair! Please call Lawrence if you have any questions or to coordinate 415-200-8967.

We will be holding our annual Collection North docent raffle at the meeting. All members who have volunteered time at the Collection will earn a raffle ticket for the drawing. The winner will receive a Tokanome bonsai pot as the prize.

We also will continue the traditional raffle for the curator’s fund. This raffle benefits Kathy Shaner, curator of the Bonsai Collection at Lake Merrit (formerly known as the Collection North). Tim Kong has searched the Bay Area for very special bonsai-related items including pots and raw bonsai material. Bring money to purchase raffle tickets and help support our club and the Collection.

See you there!
