Liquid Amber
Mar 5th: With just a bit more than two weeks to go before our annual show it is imperative that all members check their calendars for the dates of March 15 through March 19. Be prepared to volunteer and participate in, what is, our club's largest endeavor of the year. Contact Ron Weaver or speak with him on March 9 at our next General Meeting and commit to at least one shift during the run of our exhibit. If you are not on Ron’s schedule you will have to pay full admission price to attend the exhibit...  read more »
by John EdwardsOn the Jan. Meeting & the workshop attendance
Jan 22nd: This year is off to a busy start. Our January General Meeting was very well attended with many members, from long time to first time, showing up to take in an excellent presentation by John Boyce. Using a small Hollywood juniper to demonstrate the creation of a bunjin style tree John managed to pack an incredible amount of information touching on all the important aspects of bonsai creation from styling and wiring to special techniques of repotting...  read more »
by Eric SchraderLooking back over the year, welcoming in the new club president
Nov 21st: From The President December 2005 It is again the season to examine your bonsai collection to evaluate what you have accomplished in the past year or two. For me, the past two years have been a time of tremendous growth in my trees and in my love of bonsai. While I have been working as president my trees have benefited from my dedication to the art. I have bought many trees and my yard has become ever more filled as I started 40 pines and 40 oaks from seeds...  read more »

Oct 25th: From the President November 2005 As of this writing the Marco workshop is mostly filled. I want to encourage all members to come to the regular evening session, which will start at 6:30pm, an hour earlier than usual. Although all non-participants are technically "silent" observers, there is much that can be learned. This meeting, unlike many others, will offer you a chance to see some of the material that is being worked on by other members; you might say it's like a giant show and tell with free instruction for those that can pay close attention...  read more »
by Eric SchraderReminders for October 2005
Sep 26th: From the President October 2005 The October meeting will be a repotting workshop but will also be our elections for the board and officers for 2006. We have a couple board members resigning their positions and a couple new members coming on. I want to encourage everyone who is interested to become involved. We will call for nominations at the meeting and then present the slate of candidates to the membership...  read more »

Aug 22nd: September is our annual club auction; this is one of our most productive meetings in many ways: for newer members it is one of the best chances to pick up material to work on for the coming year at relatively cheap prices. For veteran members it is a chance to clean out those yards that are getting full of material that you aren?t working on. Take a look around and think about which trees you simply glance by every time you water...  read more »

Jul 26th: August 2005 Column We have some business to attend to, which I will be bringing up at the general meeting, but I thought that I should touch on it here as well. In November we will have the election of new officers and board members who will be responsible for running the club for the next year. While the current board is doing a fine job it is important that newer members become involved in the business aspects of the club...  read more »

Jun 29th: The club has had an active month with many more activities coming up. Welcome to all the new members who came to us for the Basics Workshop. I hope to see all of you at upcoming general meetings and third Thursday workshops. Don?t forget to come back for the second session of the Basics Workshop for more instruction and a lesson on repotting. Thanks to everyone who attended the Dorothy Day Community Center social...  read more »

May 25th: I posted a photo of all my Knobcone pine seedlings to the website a few weeks ago in the show and tell section?but I have now gone ahead and dug them out of the flat and cut off the tap roots. I used KLN rooting hormone on them in the process; on a couple I used it undiluted, which seems like it didn't work out, they showed almost immediate signs of salt burn and died within a day. On most of the rest I used it in the recommended dilution and planted the now cuttings in neat little rows...  read more »

Apr 28th: April has been a busy time for me; apart from my new duties as a father, I am trying to keep up with the growth of my bonsai. I took the inagural session of the John Boyce workshop and worked on a couple junipers: one California and one Shimpaku. I am realizing that I have a lot of material in my back yard that suddenly needs to be worked on. The Shimpaku is small and originally came from the basics workshop last spring...  read more »
