Aug 21st: Bring those trees into workshop for help from Tim Kong, John Edwards, Lawrence LeClaire and others. If you've been letting your trees grow this spring and summer you will probably be seeing a lot of new growth by this time.  Cleaning up trees is the next step.  Take a well refined juniper as a good example:  clean out foliage that doesn't make up part of the outline of the branches.  Remove foliage that is hanging down and that has grown beyond the desired silhouette...  read more »

Aug 14th: Our 2nd Annual Iron Bonsai Challenge will be on August 14. Jun 1st: The Bay Area Satsuki Aiokokai will hold its 14th annual Satsuki (Japanese Azaleas) bonsai show at the Lakeside Park Garden Center, 666 Bellevue Ave. May 31st and June 1st. Jun 1st: The Monterey Bonsai Club would like to extend an invitation to all club members and friends to join them in celebrating their 45th annual bonsai show. Apr 23rd: It is a common theme heard among bonsai enthusiasts that they already have too many trees to take care of and not enough time. There is something in bonsai that makes it like collecting baubles or trinkets. People think, maybe I need a Crabapple, I don't have one in my collection, or "I need a cascade style tree." Apr 10th: April General Meeting Cotoneasters are ideal candidates for small bonsai. Their stems are packed with small leaves and back-bud over the entire trunk. As an added bonus, they produce hundreds of small flowers in the spring that lead to bright red berries the rest of the year. For our April General Meeting, Eric Schrader led members with a workshop/program devoted to using cotoneasters as bonsai.
