by John Edwards | Jan 29th, 11Lunar New Year Display

On Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 10 am to 4 pm BSSF will again participate in the Arboretum’s Celebration of the Lunar New Year. It is a colorful event with Chinese dog costumes, firecrackers and drum and dance performances. The theme of the event is early spring flowers with quince, forsythia branches and azalea for sale. In the past several club members have volunteered to supply trees for a small one table display and on-going demos of bonsai styling. Japanese quince, forsythia, cotoneaster or any flowering bonsai can be shown. We would like at least two people to be on hand during this time. Better to have 4 and you can split the time. This is a good opportunity for newer members to see how a display is set and to interact with the public. Let me, or Robert Smith know if you would like to participate during the event or have a tree to show.
Our display is just for the enjoyment of visitors to promote our club and bonsai in this area. The club officially conducts no sales. However this year Robert Smith has taken out a sellers permit and will be bringing items for sale. He has invited other BSSF members to join him if they have material they would like to try selling at this one day event. Please contact Robert if you are interested in selling details.
