As the summer winds down I have stopped feeding nitrogen included fertilizer to my deciduous trees and have removed dried leaves, weeded and protected them from the rare hot sunny weather which is sure to come. In the coming months we should be preparing trees for the shorter days and deciding which fruiting & flowering trees need repotting, Japanese quince, crab apples etc. can be pruned and repotted as dormancy takes over.
Evergreens can continue to be fed and enjoy the warmer weather to come.
Take advantage of the upcoming fall bonsai shows around the bay in the coming months.
The BSSF board is still looking for a volunteer or two to work with Aaron Newton on preparing the club newsletter which goes out at the beginning of each month. Linda Ferzoco has been dutifully mailing the downloaded version but we need some one to work with Aaron to put the pdf together.
Contact Aaron if you can help at all. It takes not much of your time and will help spread some of the work around. There are currently too few people doing too much to keep this club going.
If you are currently receiving these articles through your Email and don’t need to received the mailed version of the newsletter please ask to be removed from the paper, US-mail version to help save time and $. Send an Email and let us know that you want the Email version only.
We will have updated club rosters at the September meeting. It is club policy to provided each member with a list of all club members. If you do not want to share your contact information please let me know and I will delete it from the list being distributed.
The docent calendar at the Collection North is seriously understaffed. The experience is one everyone interested in bonsai should have. This is an important resource for our community which deserves our support. Please go to the GSBF web site and volunteer.
The board is also looking for ideas on having a larger show and sale as our show at the Cow Palace next year will not include sales and will be not allow for the display of as many trees as in the past. We are looking for suggestions for an affordable and suitable venue for a potential weekend show. If you have any ideas or leads please let us know.
