2008, promises to be a great year for Bonsai enthusiasts. Our vice president, Lawrence LeClaire, has scheduled exciting demonstrations for our January and February meetings. Three of our excellent sensei, John Boyce, John Edwards and Tim Kong will each prepare a forest planting using different kinds of trees, which will be auctioned at the end of the meeting January 10th. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about the art of designing a forest planting and don’t forget you could become the winning bidder for a new bonsai. February 14 brings Jim Gremel back to BSSF with a grafting workshop for juniper. Never miss an opportunity to see Jim at work. His artistry and craft with bonsai is profound while presented with a wit that never fails to entertain. Our third Thursday workshops will be an excellent time to start setting your trees up for the March 12-16, 2008 BSSF Annual Show. Bring your trees in and start cleaning pots, preparing top dressings and mosses and putting final touches on bonsai and companion plants for the show. Now that we are thinking about that show, check your calendar and sign up for a shift to work (there’s something for everyone to do), get labeling information for you trees to Eric Schrader and consider presenting a demonstration at the show. Every member in our club has the skill to present some aspect of bonsai practice to the show audience.
