As the year winds down this club shows no signs of slowing. Saturday November 3 Tim Kong will be having a beginner workshop at his home which, as of this writing, is full. We will have another class in early February.
Our November programs are swapping places. Our BSSF Monthly Member’s Workshop will be on the second Thursday Nov. 8 so bring your trees to work on with other members. This is the last official member’s free workshop for 2007. On third Thursday Nov.15 Marco Invernizzi will conduct two paid workshops for BSSF Members. The workshop is limited to eight paid participants but all club members are invited to attend as viewers and follow the action of your fellow club members working under the guidance of a very capable teacher. There is much to be learned about bonsai from listening and observing. It should be understood Marco’s time is devoted to addressing the trees brought by those participating and members observing should refrain from distracting him from these trees in the workshop. We also request the courtesy of keeping conversations, cell phones and other distractions outside the room.
On Saturday December first a newly minted BSSF member will be hosting a dig out of junipers and boxwoods from their home garden. We have sign up list that you must register on to be provided directions. If you would like to learn about the art of urban collecting plan on coming to this event. If you haven’t signed up yet the list will be at the Nov.8 and 15 meetings.
Also at the November 15 evening meeting we will hold the club’s annual election of club officers and board members at 7:30 pm sharp. Please make a point of identifying these dedicated folks. They make all the cool stuff we do all year happen. Let them know if there is something you would like the club to do relating to bonsai. Or ask how you can become more involved.
The Directors at Large for 2008 are continuing members; John Pennington, who also maintains the club library and roster,
Aaron Newton outgoing secretary and web master for life, Joe Nerved, event planner, Eric Schrader, outgoing VP/program planner,
Tim Kong, Honorary Board Member, John Edwards, outgoing Pres. and new to the board Bernard Marque, and Randall DeRijk.
Daryl Quijano will continue to stand as club Treasurer and we are most grateful for his many year of service.
Diana Lum will move from the board to stand as secretary and keep minutes of board meetings.
Lawrence LeClaire moves from the board to stand as Vice Pres. and program planner.
Robert Smith will stand as President.
We thank all of these generous people for committing themselves and their time to expanding our endeavors in bonsai and urge all of you to turn out to vote for and meet the clubs governing board on Thursday November 15.
