Our annual September auction was by all accounts a huge success. Thank you to all who donated and participated. Special thanks go out to John Boyce for officiating and Tim and Emma Kong for providing a special buffet.
The past few months have seen an influx of new members and the board has decided to add a fall Bonsai Basics class for those recently coming to the club. Tim Kong will be teaching the class. Each participant will be given two different types of trees, wire, pots, soil and instruction on basic techniques and principals of bonsai training. The cost is $60 per person. If you are interested in attending this BSSF program, most likely a Saturday in November, we will have a sign up at the next general meeting or contact me directly to enroll.
The club is also planning a collecting trip for a different Saturday in November or early December in Daly City. The location is the yard of a new member of the club who is planning to re-landscape and has invited the club to remove some very old Junipers from the property. The material, mostly prostrata juniper, procumbens and boxwood all grown in hedge rows is of very good size trunks showing a lot of age. There are in excess of twenty junipers and many more boxwood trees. We will have a sign up for this at the October meeting. Those interested will be contacted with date, time and directions.
Sunday October 28 from 1 to 3 pm the Collection North’s fourth Sunday program will be open to observers who wish to see how Kathy Shaner and volunteers under her direction repot many of the collection’s trees. If you are just beginning or have been doing bonsai for some time this is a good opportunity to update your repotting knowledge and see what it takes to organize a repotting workday. This event is free and open to all.
