The growing season is in full throttle. Time for guidance. You should be feeding, watering and observing your trees, and reading in these pages the advice from a community of experienced growers. Many good articles have been provided by dedicated members who have been caring for trees for many summers. Our seasonal calendar to guide you with different species during the current season. Coming to our second Thursday meetings where lessons are taught and experiences are sometimes unforgettable.

June’s program, very capable BSSF member and “Fog City Bonsai” editor extraordinaire, Lawrence Le Claire, will be conducting a workshop-style wiring seminar. Eric Shrader calls wiring the keystone of bonsai. Boon says wiring is bonsai, bonsai is wiring. Get it. All you folks just starting out; DON’T MISS THIS PROGRAM! This is the next step. Bring a tree and bring your wire and tools and be ready to grow. And we are so grateful to Lawrence for sharing his expertise. Wiring is an art and Lawrence is a very able practitioner.

I hope you all were as electrified as I was by the program with Kathy Shaner and Mr. Mitsuya. If you missed it or have not read Eric Shrader’s article describing it then read it.

Looking forward to warmer, sunny days. Good time to travel to the mountains and see what real old trees look like.
