Now is the time for all members to volunteer for our annual show.
Our annual bonsai display at the San Francisco Garden Show at the Cow Palace begins on Wednesday March 21.
Our set up day will be Tuesday March 20. We will have a floor plan at the February 8 general meeting and we will be doing a mock up of the show set up at our March 8 meeting. Each BSSF member is encouraged to participate. Though the size of the show will be a reduction from past years there will be enough space for each member to show one tree. Plan to bring your show tree and stand and accompaning accents to the March meeting for a preview of the show and a club discussion about setting up a show. If you need help preparing your show trees bring them to the February and March third Thursday workshops for assistance.
We will also have a sign up list at the next two meetings for volunteers to provide security, information and plan on going demos. As in past years your free admission to the Garden Show is predicated on your participation in at least one of 3 shifts each day during the run of the show from Wednesday through Sunday March 25. After your shift you are free to explore the rest of the show and vender areas.
This year we will not have a sales area so the staffing need is for fewer people per shift. Ideally we would like to have a minimum of 3 to 5 people covering each of 3 shifts 9-12:30, 12:30-4. and 4-8 Wednesday through Saturday and 9-12, 12-3, 3-6 on Sunday. Check your calendars to see when you can participate and be prepared to sign up at the next two meetings. You must be signed up in order to gain entry to the show. As in past years the club will subsidize parking passes for those working every day.
We will also be promoting a one day sale at our regular meeting space on Saturday April 7th. We have over the years developed a loyal following at the Garden Shows and want to invite the public to attend a separate sale in our regular meeting room at the County Fair Building.
The club will also put on a small display and public outreach at the San Francisco Botanical Garden’s Lunar New Year Flower Market on February 10 from 10 am to 2 pm. There is also the possibility for selling at this venue. If you would like to participate let me know.
