With just a bit more than two weeks to go before our annual show it is imperative that all members check their calendars for the dates of March 15 through March 19. Be prepared to volunteer and participate in, what is, our club’s largest endeavor of the year. Contact Ron Weaver or speak with him on March 9 at our next General Meeting and commit to at least one shift during the run of our exhibit. If you are not on Ron’s schedule you will have to pay full admission price to attend the exhibit. Also Eric Schrader, 970-8810, is compiling a schedule of volunteers to demonstrate bonsai techniques in short programs during the run of the show; speak to him as well about available time slots. This exhibit is when all members are required to participate by preparing and displaying their bonsai and volunteering for the very important job of providing security and education during the length of the show. For those who have been through one or more of these exhibits at The San Francisco Flower and Garden Show, you know both the challenges and joys of this venue. To those newer members who have yet to experience it I say don’t miss out on a wonderful opportunity to expand your knowledge and understanding of bonsai and the chance to share it with fellow club members and an adoring public audience. We are charged with carrying on a BSSF tradition of displaying our bonsai. We have always managed to mount an impressive if not awesome display but this could not happen without the dedication of all club members to participate in some way.

The Collection North is very pleased about our club’s commitment to provide docents on the third Saturday of each month for the 1 pm to 4 pm shift. We received several pledges from members at our February meeting to meet this obligation and there are many openings left. This is another way for each of us to expand our knowledge and experience of bonsai by spending time at this marvelous collection garden. Below is the schedule for the coming year. We need two volunteers for each shift. Check and see when you could volunteer or team up with another club member to spend a Saturday afternoon at the collection.

It is our intention to continue to provide opportunities for our members to have experiences with bonsai and thereby grow their understanding and skills.

see COLLECTION NORTH DOCENT CALENDAR 2006 for details.
