Welcome to the new year!
2009 was a great year for BSSF. We had month after month of great, well attended meetings and workshops, many new members, and a great party to finish the year.
Now, we have a new set of officers ready to kick off 2010. No doubt you’ve heard that this will be a busy year for our members. Not only do we need to spend hours of work on our trees, but we need your support to keep our meetings fresh and our shows successful. Yep, our displays will only be great if you spend the time to make your trees top notch and dedicate a few hours to tending the show, making flyers, and carrying tables.
Bernard Marque will take over as VP and the Man for scheduling meeting programs. As we have the past year, we will continue to add more discussion/critique type programs to our meetings. We feel that our membership benefits from these meetings because of all the bonsai concepts and fundamentals that are discussed. We will bring back a few popular programs such as the Bonsai Pot Swap and add a few more new meetings to the mix. If you have a burning desire or idea for a program, please speak to Bernard at the next meeting.
With the new year comes the opportunity to study the bonsai trees of other clubs around the Bay. BIB has their world famous show this coming weekend and BABA soon after. Make sure to drive over, carpool, or BART to these shows and support our friends. Their clubs, you, and your trees will all benefit.
Our 3rd Thursday workshops have been well attended this past year. We would like to make one request of our members. Due to janitorial cutbacks, the Hall of Flowers has requested that dispose of our clippings and plant material at the end of the evening. We also need to protect the tables from our work. So, please bring a table cover to the workshop. It can be a simple piece of plastic or old towel, but try to keep the tables from being scuffed and dirtied. Before you leave the workshop, help out by cleaning up your mess. Doing your part will help the guys that close the door afterwards get home quicker.
So, your assignment… dedicate time to your trees, volunteer at the BGLM, join a show committee, and have a good year doing bonsai.
