From the President October 2005
The October meeting will be a repotting workshop but will also be our elections for the board and officers for 2006. We have a couple board members resigning their positions and a couple new members coming on. I want to encourage everyone who is interested to become involved. We will call for nominations at the meeting and then present the slate of candidates to the membership. Tim Kong will be the master of ceremonies.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Marco Invernezzi workshop in November. This will be an all day (or half day if you prefer) workshop. Send or give a check to Daryl to sign up, half day is $20 full day is $40. Think about the material that you have and pick a piece that you know needs work, Marco’s your man.
We are now planning a carpool trip to Lone Pine and Miniature Plant Kingdom for Saturday November 5th. I will have a sign up sheet at the October meeting to help people coordinate with each other. Miniature Plant Kingdom will be having its annual sale during this weekend and Lone Pine will offer a discount (10% I think) to club members on this day.
September has been a quiet month for my bonsai. I enjoyed the auction and purchased a few trees which I plan to work on over the winter; I’ll get started on a couple of them at the October workshop. Thank you to all the people who donated trees, to all the people who purchased material and to John Boyce for exciting the imagination on all of that great material.
Dory, Bryce and I enjoyed a Sunday at the Collection North this month where we saw John Boyce do a demo on a black pine. I took a few photos and was pleased to see a new backing on the shohin display area that really highlights the trees. Check out our website for a few photos and a short article about the demo.
