And it is time for BSSF members to sign up
Garden Show San Mateo March 24-28
Tuesday March 23 is the set up day for our Garden Show display in San Mateo. That may sound like a long way off but it will be here sooner than you think. If you have not given any thought yet to this now is the time to focus. Below is a list of things each and every member should be thinking about going forward.
1. You are preparing your trees for show; any last minute pinching, soil surface covers, moss etc.
2. Measure the tree and record information about the species, style and years in training for show labels.
3. Sign up with Diana Lum to volunteer during the show. Only those who schedule time with Diana will get free admission to Garden Show.
4. Sign up to do a demo during the time you are at the show. Newer members who now know how to repot can use the time to repot a tree and explain to the public how to do it.
BSSF 50th Anniversary Show San Francisco
May22-23
This show will be about looking back and looking forward. All members regardless of time spent in the club have something to contribute to the enjoyment of this special anniversary show. Step up and ask how you can participate. Below are some suggestions.
Set up begins early Saturday morning. We will need help setting up tables, chairs and backdrops. The show and Sales area must be ready for a Saturday night opening party.
Sales and Security will need to be staffed all day Sunday and Saturday night. On going demos, and bonsai clinic and club information all day Sunday.
1. Treasured Memories. We will be reaching out to all members past and present to participate. Especially those who have continued bonsai activities but are not regulars at club meetings. Do you have any favorite photos from past club events that you can share with the current membership? John Boyce wishes to put together a photo display of past club events and members.
2. 20 Tokonomas. We will have space for approximately 20 individual displays. We are calling out to all members to reach into their respective bonsai collections and put together a memorable display which speaks to the experience you have had in bonsai.
3. Bonsai Sales. We will have a large sales area adjacent to the exhibit where club members can sell pots, trees and any bonsai related materials.
4. Big Party. Saturday night will include dinner for members and their guests. You will all get an invitation and a request to respond. Saturday night will also include a demo by Kathy Shaner and raffle. Any donations toward additional raffle prizes are welcome.
